Tiger’s eye, A luminous stone
Tiger’s eye is a member of the quartz family of chalcedonies and a chatoyant gemstone. Chatoyancy describes the vertical luminescent fiber bands typically found in tiger’s eye, cat’s eye and hawk’s eye. The color range includes red, brown, gold, cream, black and blue. Found together with hawk’s eye in slabs of a few inches thickness, the most important deposits are found in South Africa where the export of raw material is forbidden. Tiger’s eye is also found in Australia, Burma (Myanmar), India, Namibia, and in California.
